1960-1969

In the 1960s graphic structures, patterns and lines still dominated the works of Helmer-Petersen. During this decade Helmer-Petersen began pointing his camera to the ground and here he hunted a new imageworld in what lies just beneath our feet. Gradually more associative and narrative elements were introduced within his formalist approach to motives both in the city and in nature.

In this period Helmer-Petersens work was often commissioned and used in large photo murals as decorations and in design exhibitions. In 1964 he was appointed the first lecturer of photography at the School of Architecture in Copenhagen.
